Best Football Betting Options

If you are new to football betting, or if you would like to explore more ways to bet on football, then keep on reading. In the explanation below, you will find an overview of the most common types of wagers placed in football.

Match Result (1 X 2)

Without doubt the best known betting option. Betting on a match result means that you make a straight bet on the outcome of a game, being either a home win (1), a draw (X) or an away win (2) over regular time (including injury time, but not including extra time).

Example: if you place a bet on the home team (1) and the game ends up in a 2-1 score line, you win the bet.

Half Time Result (1 X 2)

Again a straight bet on the outcome of a game where you can bet on a home win (1), a draw (X) or an away win (2) – however, in this betting option, only the first half of the regular game time (including injury time) is taken into account.

Example: if you place a bet on the first half to end in a draw (X), you win the bet when the halftime score is 0 – 0, 1 – 1, et cetera.

Double Chance

This type of bet allows you to play on a double bet, with one team to either win or draw (1 X and 2 X), or for one of both teams to win the match (1 2). This bet increases your chances of winning, but of course it comes with a lower odd.

Example: if you have picked the away team to either win or draw (2 X), and the game ends up in a 2 – 2 score line, then you win the bet because the game finished as a draw (X).

Draw No Bet

With this betting option, one can either bet on the home team or the away team to win, whereas the draw is being disregarded. If the game does end in a draw, you get your money back.

Example: if you place a bet on the home team to win, draw no bet, and the game ends up in 1 – 1, you win the bet.

Over / Under

This option allows you to bet on whether there will be more (‘over’) or less (‘under’) goals in the game above or beneath a certain number that you select. The betting line that is mostly used in this situation is over / under 2.5 goals.

Example: if you place a bet on a match to have at least 3 goals (over 2.5), and the game ends up in 2 – 1, you win the bet.

Home / Away Team goals Over / Under

You can also put a bet on how many goals one of the teams will score. It works about the same as the over / under option, but this time you need to pick the home or away team to score above or under a certain selected number of goals.

Example: if you predict the away team to score over 1.5 goals, and the match ends up in 1 – 3, you win the bet.

Both To Score (BTS)

With this betting option, one can either bet on both teams to score a goal in the match (BTS Yes) or on just one team or none of the teams to score (BTS No).

Example: if you place a bet on BTS Yes, and the game ends in a 2 – 2 draw, you win the bet.

Asian Handicap

This betting dictionary isn’t complete without mentioning the Asian handicap form of betting. It is a form of betting on football in which teams are handicapped according to their form and the opponent they are facing, in such a way that a stronger team must win by more goals for a punter betting on that team to win. Handicaps typically range from one-quarter goal to several goals, in increments of half- or quarter-goals.

Asian handicap betting reduces the possible number of outcomes from three (in traditional 1 X 2 wagering) to two by eliminating the draw outcome. This simplification delivers two betting options that each have a near 50% chance of success.

The most common handicaps are the half-point and full-point handicaps. If you back team A at -1.5 goals, then any result in which team A wins by two goals will result in a winning bet. Any win by less than a two-goal margin, any draw and any defeat will result in a loss.

In full-point handicaps, the possibility of a void bet comes into play. If you back team A at -1 goal and they win 1 – 0 (or 2 – 1, 3 – 2, et cetera), the bet becomes void and you get your stake back. Any result featuring a two-goal winning margin is a win. Any draw or defeat, meanwhile, is a loss.

Corners Over/Under

These bets work the same as over / under with total goals in a game, but now you have to predict if there will be more or less corner kicks than a certain number.

Example: if you have put a bet on under 9.5 corners for the game, and the match ends up with a total of 7 corner kicks, then you win the bet.

Half Time Corners Over/Under

Again the same principle as over / under with corner kicks, but this time the bet only counts for the first half of the game.

Example: if a bet has been placed on over 3.5 corners at half time, and five corner kicks are being taken in the first half, then you win the bet.
